Flourish

Collected 7.23.20

Will I ever continue a blog series, or simply start new ones? Haha. I’ve been wanting a place to curate short lists of things I’m loving/am inspired by at the moment, especially snippets of design. This new series, which I’ve decided to call Collected, is my solution. I’ll do more frequent, quick posts looking at trends in art, design, fashion, and interiors. Let me know what you think! x

Arched Recessed shelves

Everywhere I look lately I see people styling beautiful arched shelves in their homes and it has me dreaming of the day I’m no longer renting! Although, how you’d get that inset is probably a very expensive procedure (what do I know about home renovations). I’ll be on the hunt for a hack for renters for sure!

I love that each shelf becomes it’s own little vignette within the whole. It has strong mediterranean vibes, don’t you think? Makes me wish I was in Greece right about now.

Lavender + Terracotta Color Combo

This is something I’m trying out in my own palette lately - I’ve loved terracotta for a long time and my living room is full of the hue, mostly because of a massive jute rug I have that takes up the whole floor and covers are v ugly office carpet (as I call it). Adding in little pops of lavender gives the room such a fresh, modern feel and balances out the overwhelming warm tones. Would love to see how it works on print materials as well…I’m envisioning lilac paper inside rust colored envelopes?! Yes.

Let’s also talk about how looking at these pictures makes me want to collect more linen napkins and order all the ceramic jug vases. So summery and dreamy!

Wide Leg Pants

Okay…it’s a first world problem but let me TELL you how hard it is to find precisely the clothes I want lately. I see inspirational photos that are perfect and then I have that exact image in my mind and I can’t settle for anything else. I wish I knew how to sew!

I found these perfect wide leg, slightly pleated sweats on Pinterest and of course they’re not available any more (and, even if they were, they’d be crazy expensive!) That said, I’m waiting for the bottom image of linen pants to come back in stock from a seller on Etsy. I’m also gonna need that matching linen crop top - such a beautiful set!

Distorted type

In terms of design, lately I’ve been loving typography that’s been distorted, pushed and pulled to create abstract art that’s very interesting to look at! I love in the book cover example here how the type alone creates a beautiful, simple layout that adds meaning to the title “Quietness”.

I think type like this would make an awesome tshirt design — now my creative gears are turning :)

Side note, the lavender strikes again! It’s becoming my color of the summer I think…

Wild florals

See, here we are with the lavender color palette again! I’ve been pinning and favoriting a lot of wild looking floral arrangements lately — the messier the better. They have a “just pulled from the garden” vibe that makes them so visually interesting! All the texture and color is so dynamic. I recently followed @pulflowerla on Instagram and am LOVING her wild garden arrangements.
